Why do I need “expensive” absorbents to clean up my oil spills when I can use sawdust?

According to the Community Fire Safety Bylaw – Section 28.1 and 2 – (Dust): 28. (1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in any other law, only approved water-based solutions or detergents, floor sweeping compounds and grease absorbents must be used for cleaning purposes. (2) The use of sawdust or similar combustible materials to soak up combustible or flammable substances spilled or dropped in the course of a process, is prohibited.

What are the South African regulations regarding emergency showers and showers?

OSH Act – General Safety Regulations (GSR) and Section 3 (First aid, emergency equipment and procedures), clause 8 & 9 clearly state the requirement for eye wash and showers: (8) Where an employee is exposed or can be exposed to a potential hazard of injury to the eye through contact with a biological or chemical substance, the employer concerned shall make sure that there is an eyewash fountain or any similar facilities, in the immediate vicinity of the workplace of such employee and that the employee is trained in the use thereof. (9) Where an employee at a workplace is exposed or can be exposed to a potential hazard of injury to or absorption through the skin as a result of sudden contact with a large amount of toxic, corrosive, high risk or similar hazardous substance, the employer concerned shall make sure that there is a fast-reacting deluge-shower with clean water or a similar facility in the immediate vicinity of the workplace of such employee and that the employee is trained in the use thereof.

What are the benefits of a bunded pallet?

The bunded pallet prevents environmental damage caused by accidental spillage and allows you to assess and manage the spill in a controlled manner (not in an emergency situation) as the spill has been contained within the open view sump. They can be moved around the premises as required.
